The “Voices of Peace”, from Potter, WI, began their music ministry in 1997 with Bud and Carolyn McAtee and Tom and June Balliew. Since Tom’s passing in 2011, Bud and Carolyn have decided to continue their music ministry as a duo. Bud is a dedicated bluegrass gospel flat picker, lead singer as well as harmony, and is originally from Michigan. Carolyn is a Wisconsin native and sings lead vocal and fills in harmony. They have written 15 of their songs.
Since 1997, they have recorded seven CD’s and are in the process of producing a DVD. Their most recent CD’s are a vocal rendition entitled, “Where the Roses Never Fade” and an instrumental of Bud and friends with guitar, violin, hammer dulcimer, upright bass, mandolin, steel guitar and bass.
In 2005, the original foursome, Bud and Carolyn, Tom and June, organized the first VOP Gospel Fest. This is a 2-day outdoor concert series of gospel music held the third weekend in August at the Hilbert Civic Park, Hilbert, WI. This event has expanded through the years and presently features approximately 20 groups from throughout the Midwest. Even before the current year’s concert series concludes, plans are being solidified for next year’s Gospel Fest.
2006 was a big year for them. Their song, “Why Do I Wonder,” reached number one on the Christian Country Gospel National Charts and Number five on Southern Gospel’s top 100 hits. They received the “Excellence in Ministry of the Year” award at the Wisconsin Christian News Expo in Stevens Point, WI.
In June, 2012, Bud and Carolyn saw a long-awaited dream become reality. They took a mission trip to the indigenous Native people of Alaska to present the message of Jesus Christ through their music and testimony. This has provided more opportunities for future ministry in Alaska. They will be going back in 2013 and starting the first Gospel Fest in Nenana.
“Voices of Peace” music can be heard on several radio stations throughout the Midwest, Alaska, and Canada, which literally are heard around the world. They have also appeared on several TV stations across the state. Along with their music ministry and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others, their stories are filled with humor, excitement and encouragement. Their music is soothing, comforting, easy listening and healing. Their goal is to not only provide Christian entertainment, but to minister to those who are searching for a closer walk with God.
As many doors continue to open for Voices of Peace, please keep praying for them and supporting them as they spread the Good News of the gospel to a needy world.
To God Be The Glory!
